“Hi, I can’t find him. I’m simply coming to pick him up. I know he is secure. He texted me, saying he was in the restroom. Can you please assist?” Clark remembered his conversation with the victim’s mother. Clark helped Schermerhorn’s mother take a picture of Schermerhorn to the command post, where he learned that the adolescent was among the four fatalities officially declared dead. “It was difficult because we were just talking about her children on Tuesday this week,” Clark observed. “She was saying that the bond and connection she has with her children is unbreakable.” Schermerhorn, according to the youth minister, was a lovely youngster who enjoyed life and had no problems with others. He was autistic, yet it didn’t dim his brilliance.” Yesterday, September 5, WSB-TV obtained Instagram communications between a 14-year-old kid and his mother. While they did not identify the child, the correspondence conveys how terrifying and intense the event was for those there.
“There’s a school shooting right now. I’m afraid, please, and I’m not joking,” the child reportedly texted his mother. When she informed him that she was leaving work, he responded with a heartbroken “I love you.” The boy’s response when his mother asked where he was was equally disturbing. “Class. “Someone has died,” he wrote. Colt Gray, the 14-year-old shooter, will face adult murder charges. Following Schermerhorn’s death, his sister, Alanna Wallace, spoke with Brittany Edney of Fox 5 News about the tragedy. Edney echoed Clark’s statement, saying that Wallace revealed what a beautiful guy her brother was and the amazing effect he had on so many people. Wallace, who, together with her family, shared sweet footage of Schermerhorn with Edney, also discussed Schermerhorn’s current pastimes. He was studying to play the trumpet because he wanted to be like his older sister, who had learned the instrument first. Schermerhorn also liked playing video games on his PlayStation 5, exploring virtual fantasy worlds with his VR gear, and visiting amusement parks. Wallace remembered her late younger brother as a wonderful, energetic guy, adding that she couldn’t imagine life without him. Wallace emphasized Schermerhorn’s love for everyone when questioned about his legacy. He loved everyone for who they were, regardless of their impairments. Regarding Wallace’s reaction to such a tragedy, Edney stated that the big sister noted how she has been attempting to harness her brother’s good spirit. She observed that, despite being her younger sibling, Schermerhorn had big brother energy and was quite protective of Wallace. Edney also claimed that when she spoke with Wallace, the sister had approximately eight or so friends who supported her. The group sat in a circle with some donuts, reminiscing about Schermerhorn’s life and assuring Wallace that they had her back. Wallace stated that the sense of community is what is keeping her going right now. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Schermerhorn’s family and the other families affected by this horrible incident. We pray for healing during their pain. RIP to Schermerhorn and the other victims who died.
