Shiloh, the daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, is making headlines by announcing her decision to drop “Pitt” from her name through an advertisement in the L.A. Times. This step, part of the standard name change process, aims to expedite the completion. Soon, Shiloh will officially be known as Shiloh Jolie.
Just days after turning 18, Shiloh filed a petition with the court to legally change her name, requesting to remove Pitt and simply go by Shiloh Jolie. According to TMZ, Shiloh submitted this request on Memorial Day, which coincided with her birthday, adding significance to the timing.
The name change request is still pending but is expected to be finalized soon. The decision comes amid reports of Brad Pitt’s turbulent relationship with his children following his 2016 divorce from Angelina Jolie. The custody battles and other disputes have been ongoing for years, affecting the dynamics within the family of six children
Shiloh, the biological child of both Brad and Angelina, is not the first to distance herself from the Pitt name. Maddox and Zahara have also opted not to use “Pitt” in their names. Recently, 15-year-old Vivienne was referred to as Vivienne Jolie in a Broadway musical program she is working on with Angelina. However, Shiloh is the only child to formally request a legal name change.
In an August 2022 article in People magazine, a source close to Brad Pitt mentioned that he has been striving to improve his relationship with his children since the divorce. The source stated, “Since Angelina filed for divorce, Brad has been focused on having the best relationship possible with his kids. It’s been very difficult for him. Many times, there have been long gaps where he didn’t see the kids at all.” The insider noted that the situation has been sad for a long time, highlighting the ongoing challenges in the family dynamics.
